2021 is a special year for the Florentine Dominican community of Santa Maria Novella: in fact, we celebrate the 800th anniversary of its foundation, expressly desired by St. Dominic, who sent 12 friars to Florence to establish a convent and preach the Gospel there for the salvation of souls.
The jubilee year was inaugurated on Thursday 25 March by Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, president of the Italian Bishops' Conference.
Gorent's support for this prestigious moment, which takes place in the basilica founded by the Dominican Order in the first half of the thirteenth century and which has become one of the most important religious and artistic points of reference in Italy, stems from the awareness that today we are called to rethink to the value of common goods in an integrated, innovative and long-term logic.
The cultural heritage is also that of the values generated by the civic and historical fabrics of the cities, which it is our duty to preserve for the new generations. The works of artists of the caliber of Giotto, Brunelleschi, Masaccio, Michelangelo, Ghirlandaio, Botticelli and Vasari, together with the music of the Filarmonia Veneta Youth Orchestra and the singing of Cristian Ricci are sublimated into great beauty, a universal heritage to be supported and promoted
The event is open to all subject to availability. For entry, the Green pass or negative swab performed in the 48 hours prior to the event is mandatory.
